Every other legal Niv-Mizzet is a blue-red spells-and-damage engine. Ghost Counsel, from Reality Fracture Commander, is white-black and has never cast a spell in its life, it cares about life totals instead.

Flying. Whenever you gain life, you may pay that much life. If you do, draw that many cards. Tap: Each opponent loses 1 life and you gain 1 life.

That tap ability is a small, repeatable lifegain source that feeds the draw trigger on the same card, a two-piece engine in one 6-mana dragon. It's new enough that it wasn't in Deckaugur's card pool when we started writing this series; we ran the set-ingestion pipeline specifically to include it; a reminder that a synergy engine is only as current as the data under it, and new sets need to be caught deliberately.

What the suggestion engine actually found

With just Ghost Counsel in the command zone, Deckaugur's findSuggestions returns an almost entirely lifegain-tagged list, which is the correct read of a card whose only two abilities both key off life total. The top of it, cards that either produce lifegain in volume or convert it into something else, stacking directly on top of what Ghost Counsel already does twice over on its own card:

The grade, and what it's actually measuring

Filled the same way as every deck in this series, role-coverage cards first, then the top of the synergy ranking, then run through gradeDeck.

90
TIER: HARD
The strongest deck in the series, by a wide margin.

All six role targets landed met: lands 36 of 36, ramp 8 of 8, draw 12 of 8, removal 7 of 6, wipes 2 of 2, creatures 37 of 15, average mana value 3.7, and only a single unrewarded warning in the entire 99. That's not luck, it's what happens when a commander's payoff (life total) overlaps almost perfectly with two of the grading formula's own role targets, draw and lifegain-adjacent removal both being well-represented tags in white and black. The scoring article is explicit that synergy density alone caps at 30 of 100 points, role coverage and a clean curve make up the rest, and this is what it looks like when a deck earns both halves without a deliberate role-balancing pass.

A real interaction the engine flagged

The combo detector found 957 bridging pairs in this list and three engine hubs, numbers that mostly describe how saturated the white-black lifegain space is, not 957 individual discoveries. The pair worth actually knowing: Sheoldred, the Apocalypse doubles the life you gain (and drains you further on draw), feeding directly into Ghost Counsel's own pay-life-to-draw trigger, each card makes the other's number bigger. That's a real two-card line, found the same way Deckaugur finds it for your own deck, by checking whether one card's enables tag matches the other's cares tag in both directions.

Building your own

This deck is close to a model answer for what the suggestion engine does well: a commander whose payoff and whose role gaps point the same direction. The one thing worth double-checking yourself, the same lifegain cards that feed Ghost Counsel's draw also feed every other lifegain payoff on the board, including your opponents' if they're playing one, so interaction that can answer a life-total race, not just a creature, earns its slot here more than most decks.
